Prof. Heather Koldewey

Zoological Society of London

Heather Koldewey started working for the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) in 1995, initially as a postdoctoral research scientist, then as curator of the ZSL London Zoo Aquarium and currently as Head of Marine and Freshwater Conservation. Heather is an Associate Honorary Professor at the University of Exeter (Cornwall campus), a National Geographic Fellow and leads the Bertarelli Programme in Marine Science.

Heather was involved in developing the science case to support the establishment of the British Indian Ocean Marine Protected Area (MPA) in 2010 and was part of the first expedition after the MPA was established in 2012. She is interested in building collaborations and interdisciplinary research that inform conservation action, both in ocean wilderness areas like BIOT and in areas of high biodiversity and poverty, notably the Philippines and Mozambique.
